An Esoteric Treatise of Theurgy

Samael Aun Weor

CHAPTER 6

FIFTH INVOCATION

The reader who has closely followed the entire course of our esoteric investigations will understand that neither spiritualism with its mediums, nor black magic with its “laboratories”, would have been useful to us in carrying out these transcendental invocations of high Theurgy.

There are many students who would like to see, hear, touch and feel these things, but whose corresponding faculties are unfortunately damaged.  Many are the people who would like to consciously “come out” in the astral body, and they suffer tremendously because they can’t make it happen.

The key that we gave in the first chapter with the mantra “FARAON”* is formidable.  The important thing is to not lose heart:  persevere tirelessly until you succeed.

During normal sleep, every human being is outside of the physical body.  In the internal worlds the Innermost intervenes in order to make us fully comprehend all of the processes of daily living, for example: business that we carried out during the day, words that we spoke, emotions we had, etc.

We unfortunately live in an unconscious way day in and day out.  We don’t understand the triple reach—physical, psychic and spiritual—of each of our actions, every one of our words, each one of our feelings, daily.  So the Innermost intervenes during our sleep to make us see, in a symbolic way, the triple reach of all the things we do in our daily life.  So then, during sleep, human souls move about among that symbolism.  Those symbols are our so-called dreams.

If we lived every one of the actions of our daily life with full consciousness, if we understood the triple reach of every act of this daily life of ours, if before giving ourselves up to sleep we were to do a retrospective exercise to make “conscious awareness” of everything that happened during the day, then during our hours of sleep we would be “on vacation”; absolutely free.  We would move about consciously in our astral body.  We would operate in the internal worlds with awakened consciousness.

However we must point out that the retrospective exercise should be done in deep meditation.

Remember your errors, repent of them, and make the resolution to not do them again!

Don’t condemn your errors!  Don’t justify your errors!  When we condemn them or when we justify them, we haven’t understood them!  The important thing is to consciously comprehend them.  When we make “conscious awareness”, total and absolute, of a certain defect, then that defect is disintegrated.  We remain free of it!

What is important, then, is that the dreamer wakes up in the internal worlds without mediumism, without hypnotism, etc., during normal sleep, during natural sleep.

After this introduction to our present chapter, we’re going to continue with the investigation of the “Conjuration of the Seven.”

After having taken up the previous investigations, we decided to study the fifth Conjuration of the great King Solomon.

Let’s look at it:

By Zachariel and Sachel-Meleck, be obedient unto Elvah, Sanagabril!

We already knew that Zachariel is the Genie of Jupiter.  What we didn’t know was who Elvah and Sanagabril were.  At first glance, we understood that they were the two Antitheses of the Ray of Jupiter.

Sanagabril, being a tenebrous entity, had to be called with the Appellation of Peter of Apono.  Since Sanagabril had to be conjured to drive him away, it was a logical deduction that he was one of the Tenebrous!

As for Elvah, it followed that he was a luminous Angel, since he has to be used to ward off Sanagabril.  So then, Elvah couldn’t be invoked with the appellation of Peter of Apono.  He had to be called in the Name of Christ, by the Majesty of Christ, by the Power of Christ!

In the internal worlds, we began by invoking Sanagabril.  We made the invocation in a small parlor, while in the astral body.  We called many times, but Sanagabril took his time.

A narrow corridor, a long passageway filled with darkness, led to the small parlor where we were making the invocation.  After a time of patient waiting, we felt the footfalls of someone coming down the narrow hallway.  The sound of those footsteps wasn’t like shoes or sandals.  It was a very different sound!  It was the sound of claws or of nails, like those of a tiger or an evil beast!

We remained steadfast!  We waited for Sanagabril to come a bit closer.  We were prepared to conjure him with great force!...  Suddenly, a strange being came to the threshold of that room.  We looked and saw a face so horrible that it could only be conceived by the imagination of a madman or an imbecile.

It would have been better for us to see the dead rising out of their graves at midnight than to see that tremendously horrible face of Sanagabril!  Frankly, the terrible aspect of that diabolical beast surprised us so much that we had to return instantly to the physical body.  We weren’t afraid of him!  We were surprised by his horrible ugliness…  To that sad state come all who follow the Black Path!

But, we did not lose heart and we decided to confront that horrible spectacle again.

So then, with our minds made up, another night in our astral bodies we once again made the invocation of Sanagabril.  This time we invoked him on one of the street corners of a big city.  Sanagabril came to our call!  But, eager to speak with us, he assumed the shape of a normal man.  He looked like a banker, and he came talking to us about money; he gave us the winning lottery numbers, apparently so that we would buy tickets…  With these temptations he aimed to draw us into his tenebrous spheres of influence.  The Lottery is pure black magic!  It robs an entire people to enrich a few.  We didn’t let ourselves get locked up in that little golden cage.  We were only interested in knowing this tenebrous aspect, this Shadow of Jupiter!

Afterward, on another night, we decided to investigate Elvah.  That Angel is Love, Altruism, Charity, Chastity and Sanctity.

* The mantra FARAON is pronounced “FAH – RAH – OWN”.
