PRACTICE
The Essence and Its Environment
Having begun to realize in the previous practice ("The Seven Bodies") that "I am not this body" and that our Essence, our Consciousness, is not bound by this physical body, in this practice we allow our awareness to keep expanding outward from where our body is seated, encompassing more and more in its field. The heart of this meditation practice is delineated by Master Samael in chapter 17 of the book Aztec Christic Magic:
Relax your whole body, make your mind blank for a few moments and become completely quiet.
When you’ve achieved this, expand your consciousness outward from within; see it expand upward, downward, sideways, always from around your body. See the color of your shirt, of your tie, of your suit, of your shoes. Make sure you keep your body relaxed and in good posture. Observe the layout of your room, the furniture, the pictures on the walls. Identify everything before encompassing the streets of the whole city where you live. Identify them, feel the flow of traffic and keep expanding your consciousness like this, more and more, until it encompasses the whole Earth. Afterward, encompass the limitless space where the suns and the sidereal worlds are in motion.
