Lesson 24

The Tree of Life

“There are two Trees of Eden: The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, and the Tree of Life.

The Tree of the Science of Good and Evil is Sex, and this Tree is represented by the sexual organs.     The Tree of Life is the Being and is represented in our physical body by the spinal column."

 --Samael Aun Weor --

It may be asked why it is that the Western nations should go to the Hebrew culture for their mystical tradition?  The answer to this question will be readily understood by those who are acquainted with the esoteric theory concerning races and sub-races.  Everything must have a source.  Cultures do not spring out of nothing.

The mysticism of Israel supplies the foundation of modern Western occultism…  Its famous glyph, the Tree of Life, is the best meditation-symbol we possess, because it is the most comprehensive.

(Dion Fortune, The Mystical Qabalah)

PART 1 – THE KABALISTIC TREE OF LIFE

I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.  A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him…

I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

 (Book of Daniel 7:9, 13-15)

¨ What is the Kabalistic Tree of Life?

If we look at the Tree of Life as written by the Hebrew Kabalists, we see ten Sephiroth.  The tree begins with the Ancient of Days, Kether, who is in the highest place.  After this comes Chokmah, the second Sephira, or Second Logos, which is really the Cosmic Christ or Vishnu.  Then comes Binah, the Third Logos, Lord Shiva.  Kether, Chokmah and Binah are the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit as drawn in the Tree of Life of the Hebraic Mysteries; this is how the Rabbis taught it.

Kether, Chokmah and Binah are the Trimurti of Perfection, they are the divine triangle, the much-beloved Father, the much-adored Son, and the very wise Holy Spirit.

After the divine triangle there is an abyss and after this abyss comes a second triangle formed by Chesed, the fourth Sephira that corresponds to the Innermost, or speaking in Sanskrit, Atman the Ineffable.  This triangle continues with Geburah, the rigor of the Law, the fifth Sephira; Buddhi, the Divine Soul, which is feminine.  Then comes Tiphereth, the sixth Sephira, the Human Soul, which is masculine.

A third triangle unfolds, and this is represented by Netzach, the mind, the seventh Sephira; then Hod, the eighth Sephira, the Astral Body; further below is Yesod, the ninth Sephira, the principal foundation of sex, the vital base of the physical organism, the Vital Body or etheric vehicle, the linga sarira of the Theosophists.

Finally, at the lowest part of the Tree of Life, we find Malchuth, the tenth Sephira, the Physical  world or Physical body, the body of flesh and bone.

(Samael Aun Weor, The Initiatic Path in the Arcana of the Tarot and Kabala, ch. 54)

¨ What do the different triangles symbolize?

The first triangle, Kether, Chokmah and Binah, is Logoic.  The second triangle, Chesed, Geburah and Tiphereth, is Ethical. The third triangle, Netzach, Hod and Yesod, is Magical.  Malchuth, the physical world, is a fallen Sephira.

The first triangle, that is, the Logoic triangle, obviously has its center of gravity, and anyone can see that it is the Divine Father, the Ancient of Days, Kether.  Kether is a mathematical point in infinite, immense and unalterable space. This triangle is the triangle of the Father.

If we analyze the second triangle, we find that it is Ethical.  Why do we call it ethical?  Simply because ethics, right conduct, takes priority there.  There we become acquainted with the rigor of the Law, there we come to know good and evil; what good is and what evil is.  This triangle is the world of pure Spirit, the Hindustani Trimurti of Atman, Buddhi, and Manas.  Obviously, the center of gravity of this triangle stands out right away: it is the Human Soul.  That Soul—Tiphereth, that is, which correspond to the Causal body—suffers, and the very human part of it remains in us.  This triangle is also called the triangle of the Son; we find there that the Cosmic Christ, Chokmah, usually manifests through the Human Soul, which is the Tiphereth of the Hebraic Kabalah.

The third triangle is very interesting because this is the Magical Triangle, formed by the Mind, or Netzach; the Astral Body, or Hod; and the Etheric Body, Yesod or the basic sexual principle of the universal life.  Why is it called the Magical Triangle?  Because it is undoubtedly in the kingdom of the Mind, the Astral and even the Kliphoth or infernal worlds, that one uses High Magic.

There is no doubt that it in Netzach that we can find Hermetic Magic and Natural Magic in Hod.  Other authors think differently, they believe that it is in Netzach, the Mental World, that Natural Magic is found.  I have to disagree with them in this matter because strictly speaking the mind is Mercurial.  There are authors who disagree with my concepts, supposing that the mind is Venusian.  I regret to disagree with that kind of concept because anyone can see that the mind is Mercurial.  Therefore, Hermetic Magic has to be identified with Mercury, in the mind, and as far as Natural, Ceremonial or Ritualistic Magic is concerned, we can find it in the Astral world, in the Astral Body.

Where will we find the Magical Triangle’s center of gravity?  Obviously it’s found in sex, because it is from sex that birth, death and regeneration come.  Everything revolves around the sex.  In other words, the third triangle has sex, or Yesod, as its center of gravity; Yesod is the force of the Third Logos, the sexual potency.

And so we’ve learned that there are three basic centers of gravity in this whole Tree of Life.  In the first triangle Kether, the Ancient of centuries, the First Logos, is the center of gravity.  In the second triangle Chokmah, the Cosmic Christ, the Second Logos, has its center of gravity in the Human Soul, Tiphereth.  In the third triangle Yesod becomes the center of gravity of the Holy Spirit, the Third Logos.  Life, the physical body, and all organisms that have life, come forth from the sexual force  Malchuth itself, which is the physical world [and physical body], could not exist without the presence of sex, since we are children of a man and a woman.  Therefore, Yesod is the foundation of the Third Logos, the center of gravity of the sexual force of the Third Logos.

(Samael Aun Weor, The Initiatic Path in the Arcana of the Tarot and Kabala, ch.

¨ What is the Tree of Life in us?

There are two Trees of Eden:  the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, and the Tree of Life.  The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil is sex, and is represented by the sexual organs.  The Tree of Life is the Being and is represented in our physical body by the spinal column.

Every true cultural doctrine has to study these two Trees in detail, because the study of one tree without the study of the other gives knowledge tht is incomplete and useless.

What is the purpose of studying the Being if we don’t know about sex?  Both Trees are from Eden and they even share the same roots.  These Trees are the two great main columns of the White Lodge:  Wisdom and Love.  Wisdom is the Tree of the Science of Good and Evil and Love is the Tree of Life.

In ancient Egypt the doctrine of the two Trees was studied in depth.

The fatal shadow of the Tree of Life is the ego.  The fatal shadow of the Tree of Knowledge is fornication.  People usually mistake the shadows for reality.

Those who put an end to the process of the ego realize the Being in themselves.

Those who put and end to fornication become Christs.

And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”   (Genesis 2:16-17)

So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.(Genesis 3:6)

And the Lord God said, Behold the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever…  So he drove out the man: and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden cherubim, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.  (Genesis 3:22, 24)

The Flaming Sword of Cosmic Justice turns every way, blazing, threatening and terrible, guarding the path of the Tree of Life.

(Samael Aun Weor, The Initiatic Path in the Arcana of the Tarot and Kabala, ch. 54)

¨ How do we become conscious of the Tree of Life in us?

From the Sephirothic Crown—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—the Innermost was born.  The Innermost is enveloped in six lower vehicles that co-penetrate each other and form the human being.  All of the faculties and powers of the Innermost are the fruits of the Tree of Life.  When human beings return to Eden (by the same path by which they left) they will be able to eat of the fruits of the Tree of Life.  Then they will see God face to face without dying, and lightning will serve as their scepter and tempests their footstool.

There are ten waves of life that penetrate and co-penetrate each other without being confused.  Those ten Eternal Emanations are the ten Sephiroth of Kabala, the ten branches of the Tree of Life.  Now we can begin to understand why God put ten fingers on our hands.

The twelve senses of the human being (7 chakras or churches + 5 physical senses = 12) are related with our spinal column.  The spinal column is the physical exponent of the Tree of Life.  The twelve senses are the twelve fruits of the Tree of Life.

(Samael Aun Weor, The Initiatic Path in the Arcana of the Tarot and Kabala, ch. 54

PART 2 – THE SEPHIROTH

The Tree of Life is within us, here and now…

(VM Samael Aun Weor)

The ten Sephiroth of universal vibration emanate from the Ain Soph, which is the Microcosmic star that guides our interior, the Real Being of our Being.

People speak of the ten Sephiroth, but in reality there are twelve: the Ain Soph Aur is the 11th and the Ain Soph the 12th, along with its tenebrous antithesis, the abyss.

They are twelve spheres or regions that mutually penetrate and co-penetrate each other without becoming confused. The twelve spheres gravitate toward the central atom of the sign of the infinite. Solar humanity unfolds in these twelve spheres. We have said that the sign of the infinite is in the center of the Earth, in the heart of the Earth. The Sephiroth are atomic. The ten Sephiroth can be reduced into three tables:

1. The Quantum Table of the radiant energy that comes from the Sun.

2. The Table of the Atomic Weights of the elements of nature.

3. The Table of the Molecular Weights of the compounds.

This is Jacob's ladder, which goes from earth to heaven. All the world's oof Cosmic Consciousness are reduced to three tables.

A Sephira cannot be understood in one plane only, because it is of a quadruple nature. Therefore, the Kabalists are speaking clearly when they say that there are four worlds

Atziluth is the world of Archetypes, or world of Emanations; it is the divine world.

Briah is the World of Creation, also called Khorcia or the world of Schemes.

Yetzirah is the World of Formation and of the Angels.

Assiah is the world of action, the world of matter.

Three Sephiroth of form—Binah, Geburah, Hod—are found in the Pillar of Severity.

Three Sephiroth of Energy—Chokmah, Chesed, Netzach) are found in the Pillar of Mercy.

Between these two pillars is the Pillar of Equilibrium, in which is found the different levels of the Consciousness—Kether, Tiphereth, Yesod, and Malchuth.

The ten known Sephiroth come from Sephira, the Divine Mother, who resides in the heart temple. “IO” is the mantram of the Divine Mother, and ten (10) are the emanations of Prakriti, in other words the ten Sephiroth.

Kether is the Father in us, a breath of the Absolute profoundly unknown to itself. Kether is the Ancient of days, and ultimately each one of us is a blessed Ancient of Days.

Chokmah is the Son, the atomic Christ in us.

Binah is the Mother in us and the Holy Spirit in us.

Kether, Chokmah and Benah are our Sephirothic Crown.

The Holy Spirit is our Divine Mother, dressed with a blue mantle and a white tunic of exquisite splendors.

The Mother holds in her hand a precious lamp; this lamp is the Innermost that burns within the depth of our hearts. The Innermost is contained in a vessel of fine and transparent alabaster. This vessel is our own superlative consciousness; it is our Buddhi.

The Innermost is the Sephira Chesed; Buddhi is the Sephira Geburah. The Innermost and the Buddhi are expressed through the Human Soul. The Human Soul is Tiphereth; willpower and beauty. Therefore, the Innermost with its two Souls, the Divine and the Human, rules on his thron, which is the cerebro-spinal nervous system.

The Innermost is crowned with the Sephirothic Crown. The Innermost lives in his Temple. The Temple of the Innermost has two columns, Jakin and Boaz. Jachin is the mind and Boaz is the astral body. The mind is the Sephira Netzach and the astral body is the Sephira Hod. These two columns of the temple are sustained upon the Cubic Stone of Yesod. This Cubic Stone also serves as a foundation for the Kingdom of Malchuth.

That Cubic Stone is the Etheric Body. Malchuth is the physical body.

Therefore the human being is a complete decade. We have ten fingers on our hands, ten Sephiroth, and ten commandments.

When the Ancient of Days has Self-Realized in Himself the ten Sephiroth, he is transformed into Adam-Kadmon, the Celestial Man.

All who Self-Realize in themselves the ten Sephiroth shine in the World of the Light with ineffable Christic splendors.

When the Ancient of Days has Self-Realized in Himself the ten Sephiroth, they shine in the World of Light as precious gems, as resplendent stones on the body of the Ancient of Days.

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; to him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. (Revelations 2:7)

The 10 Sephiroth shine as precious stones in the body of the Elder of Days. This is how we become the Celestial Jerusalem.

…and the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; the fifth, sardonynx; the sixth, sardius, the seventh, chrysolite; the eight, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. (Revelations 21:19-20)

The ten Sephiroth are atomic, the ten Sephiroth are the Holy City, Jerusalem that comes to shine within the depth of our heart.

…in the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it: and his servants shall serve him: and they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.

And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever. (Revelations 22:2-5)

When a human being incarnates the Sephirothic Crown, then the Ancient of Days will shine upon him and he will reign forever and ever.

However, brothers of my soul, truly I tell you that no one reaches the Father except through the Son. The Son is the atomic Christ in us, Chokmah, the Divine Christic Wisdom, the Gnosis that shines in the depth of our heart.

We have to inundate all of our vehicles with atoms of Christic nature; we have to form Christ within ourselves in order to rise towards the Father, for no one reaches the Father except through the Son.

Though Christ be born a thousand times in Bethlehem, worth less it will be, if He is not born in our hearts as well. We need to form Christ within ourselves so as to enter through the doors of the City, triumphant and victorious, on Palm Sunday.

Christmas is a cosmic event that must be performed in each one of us. The Nativity is absolutely individual. There is the need for the Christ to be born in each one of us; the Nativity of heart is urgent.

There is the need to transform the Tree of the Science of Good and evil into the Immolated Lamb of the Holy City.

Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out.(Revelations 3:12)

Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.(Revelation 2:10)

I am the bread of life, I am the living bread, Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath Eternal Life; and I will rise him up at the last day, He that eatheh my flesh and drinketh my blood dwelleth in me, and I in him.(John 6:48, 51, 54, 56)

Christ truly is a Sephirothic Crown (Kether, Chokmah and Binah) of incommensurable wisdom, whose purest atoms shine within Chokmah, the world of Ophanim.

That Sephirothic Crown (incommensurable) sent his Buddha, Jesus of Nazareth, who through innumerable reincarnations prepared himself in our terrestrial evolution.

It was in the river Jordan where the Christic crown, the Solar Logos shone and penetrated within his Buddha Jesus of Nazareth.

Behold here the mystery of the double human personality, which is one of the greatest mysteries of occultism.

When the human being receives the Sephirothic Crown then the Ancient of Days illuminates him and guides him towards the waters of pure life.

However, my brothers, no one reaches the Father except through the Son, and the Son is in the depth of the Ark of the Alliance awaiting the instant of realization.

That Ark of the Covenant is our sexual organs. Only through the Perfect Chastity can we form the Christ within ourselves and rise towards the Father.

Brothers and sisters, I have already given you, granted to you the ark of the New Testament.

I have already taught you the path of Sexual Magic.

...and the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightning, and voices, and thundering and an earthquake, and great hail. (Revelations 11:19)

The much-beloved Father, the much-adored Son and the very wise Holy Spirit live within the depths of our superlative consciousness, awaiting the supreme moment of our Self-Realization.
