Christmas Message 1965-66
CHAPTER 3
THE LAW OF THREE
Dearly beloved, it is necessary that on this Christmas of 1965 we know the Law of Three in depth. It is urgent to know the place that we occupy in this marvelous Ray of Creation.
The Son came to world to save us and it is necessary to know what the Father is, what the Son is, and what is the Holy Spirit. All of the sacred Trimurtis of all religions correspond to the three primary forces of the universe. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit constitute a trinity inside of the unity of life.
Isis, Osiris, Horus, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, etc., are the sacred Trimurtis that always represent the same three primary forces. All creation and all cosmic phenomena have their basis in the three primary forces.
Contemporary scientists recognize force and resistance, the positive force and the negative force; positive and negative cells—that is to say masculine and feminine cells—etc., but they do not know that without a third neutral force, every phenomenon, all creation is impossible. It is certain and completely true that one or two forces cannot produce any phenomenon, but scientists believe that the positive-negative forces can produce all phenomena.
If we study ourselves deeply, we can discover the three forces in action. Electricity is not just positive or negative; there is also electricity in its neutral form. One or two forces can never produce any phenomenon and every time that we observe a detainment in the development of anything we can say with absolute surety that there is a lack of the third force.
The three primary forces separate and unite once more; they cosmically divide and multiply themselves. In the Unmanifested Absolute, the three primary forces constitute an indivisible and self-conscious unity in an integral form.
During cosmic manifestation the three primary forces separate and unite and at the points where the three concur, phenomena, worlds, universes, etc., are created. These three forces in the Ray of Creation seem like three wills, three consciousnesses, three unities. Each one of these three forces contains in itself all the possibilities of the three, however in their point of conjunction each one of them only manifests one principle, positive, negative or neutral. It is extremely interesting to see the three forces in action; they separate, move away from each other and then reencounter each other in order to form new and different trinities that give rise to new worlds, new cosmic creations.
In the Absolute the three forces are the One Logos, the variety within the total unity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit constituting an All-merciful and Omniscient All.
The Master G., speaking to his disciples about the Law of Three, said:
"Let us imagine the Absolute as a circle and in it a number of other circles, worlds of the second order. Let us take one of these circles. The Absolute is designated by the number 1, because the three forces constitute one whole in the Absolute, and the small circles we will designate by the number 3, because in a world of the second order the three forces are already divided.
"The three divided forces in the worlds of the second order, meeting together in each of these worlds, create new worlds of the third order. Let us take one of these worlds. The worlds of the third order, created by the three forces which act semimechanically, no longer depend upon the single will of the Absolute but upon three mechanical laws. These worlds are created by the three forces. And having been created they manifest three new forces of their own. Thus the number of forces acting in the worlds of the third order will be six. In the diagram the circle of the third order is designated by the number 6 (3 plus 3).
In these worlds are created worlds of a new order, the fourth order. In the worlds of the fourth order there act three forces of the world of the second order, six forces of the world of the third order, and three of their own, twelve forces altogether. Let us take one of these worlds and designate it by the number 12 (3 plus 6 plus 3). Being subject to a greater number of laws these worlds stand still further away from the single will of the Absolute and are still more mechanical. The worlds created within these worlds will be governed by twenty-four forces (3 plus 6 plus 12 plus 3). The worlds created within these worlds will be governed by forty-eight forces, the number 48 being made up as follows: three forces of the world immediately following the Absolute, six of the next one, twelve of the next, twenty-four of the one after, and three of its own (3 plus 6 plus 12 plus 24 plus 3), forty-eight in all. Worlds created within worlds 48 will be governed by ninety-six forces (3 plus 6 plus 12 plus 24 plus 48 plus 3). The worlds of the next order, if there are any, will be governed by 192 forces, and so on. [1]
If we analyze in depth these calculations of the Master G., we must comprehend that the world of 96 laws is the first submerged plane of the Abyss and that the world of 192 laws corresponds to the second submerged plane of the Abyss. The Abyss is the Mineral Kingdom and is situated beneath the Earth’s surface. The abyss is the Greek Tartarus, the Hindustani Avitchi, the Roman Avernus, the Christian Inferno, etc., etc.
The Abyss has seven submerged atomic regions; these are the atomic infernos of Nature. The Law of Three permits us to know how many laws govern each submerged region of the Inferno. If in the world of 48 laws, which is the cellular world in which we live, everything is already mechanical and the will of the Absolute is never done, what can we say of the Mineral Kingdom? Those who are lost live in the Mineral Kingdom; life in the Mineral Kingdom is very far from the will of the Absolute. In the submerged Mineral Kingdom the will of the Absolute is not even remembered.
The Ray of Creation begins in the Absolute and ends in the Inferno. The order of the Ray of Creation is this:
1st Absolute
2nd All Worlds
3rd All Suns
4th The Sun
5th All the Planets
6th The Earth
7th The Inferno
We are sorry to have to disagree with the Master G. on that matter of the moon. The Master G. believes that the Ray of Creation begins in the Absolute and ends in the moon. Master G. supposes that the moon is a fragment detached from the Earth in a remote archaic past. The Master G believes that the moon is a world that is being born and that it nourishes itself from the Earth’s vitality.
Those of us who were active in the past Cosmic Day know very well that the moon was a world like the Earth, a world submitted to many evolutive and involutive processes, a world that had life in abundance and has since died. The moon is a cadaver. The moon belongs to the past Ray of Creation. The moon does not belong to our present Ray of Creation.
The lunar influence is a submerged subconscious type of influence and controls the tenebrous regions of the Earth’s abyss, which is why in esotericism those regions are called submerged sublunar regions. Those regions are the outer darkness where only wailing and the gnashing of teeth are heard.
We normally live in this cellular world of 48 laws and it is very interesting to know that the germinal cell from which comes the gestation of the human organism has 48 chromosomes. If the will of the Absolute is no longer done in the world and in all the worlds of the third order created by the three forces which already act semi-mechanically, much less will that will be done in this world of 48 laws in which we live, move and have our Being. Just one consolation remains to us, even though it is deeply terrifying, and that is that beneath us, below the Earth’s surface, there are worlds of 96 and 192 forces and even a great deal more, and that those worlds are tremendously more complicated and terribly materialistic, where it is not even remembered that the will of the Absolute even exists.
The Absolute creates its cosmic plan in the world of the Three Laws and afterwards everything proceeds mechanically. We are separated from the Absolute by the 48 mechanical laws that make our lives frightfully mechanical and dreadfully tedious.
If we fabricate a true Astral Body—do not confuse this with the body of desires of which Max Heindel speaks—we free ourselves from half of these laws and we remain submitted to the 24 orders of laws that wisely govern the planetary world. Fabricating a Solar Body, that is to say an authentic Astral Body, in fact means being one step closer to the Absolute. If after having fabricated the Astral Body we take the liberty of fabricating for ourselves a Mental Body—not to be confused with the mind that the living and the dead normally use, which is of a lunar-animal type—we take another great step towards the Absolute and we remain submitted to the 12 solar laws. If we fabricate the Body of Conscious Will or Causal Body—do not confuse this with the psychic Essence deposited inside the lunar mind—then we liberate ourselves from the 12 solar laws and we are left submitted to the 6 orders of cosmic laws. This signifies taking a third step toward the Absolute.
The fourth step takes us to the Absolute itself, the divine Protocosmos, which is governed by three laws and nothing more. The Protocosmos is Divine Spirit and is found submerged in the bosom of the Absolute. All the suns and worlds of the Protocosmos are made of the divine substance of the Divine Spirit.
We can rise or fall, return to the Absolute or descend to the Mineral Kingdom. The souls that enter the Mineral Kingdom remain submitted first to the 96 orders of laws, afterward to 192 and as they continue involuting in that submerged kingdom they keep complicating with a greater and greater number of laws. Those who enter the mineral Abyss involute, go backwards, passing through the animal, vegetable and mineral kingdoms. When the lost reach that mineral state, when they fossilize completely beneath the Earth’s surface, then they in fact disintegrate, they turn to dust. The Abyss is the melting pot. It is necessary that the tenebrous are disintegrated in the Abyss so that the Essence, the Soul, is liberated and returns to its Divine Spirit from which it one day came. In the crucible the petrified souls are melted through the cosmic process that Ibsen symbolized as the Button-Molder in Peer Gynt.
Of course that melting of the petrified and rigid forms which have lost the power of developing themselves carries with it frightful sufferings and indescribable and terrible bitterness. The crucible has the objective of restoring the defective psychic product, returning it to its natural state of primitive purity and liberating it from the lunar bodies after disintegrating the I by means of the submerged involution. The lunar bodies and the Ego are reduced to dust in the cosmic crucible. The Essence, the Soul, the psychic principle, can only be liberated from the Abyss by turning the Ego and its lunar bodies to dust.
A wise author said, “The descent into hell is thus a journey backwards through evolution; a sinking into ever greater density, darkness, rigidity, and inconceivable tedium of time; a falling back through the ages into primeval chaos, whence the immense ascent towards the knowledge of God has to be begun all over again from the beginning.” [2]
The Tibetan Book of the Dead says, referring to the Abyss, “falling therein, thou wilt have to endure unbearable misery, whence there is no certain time of getting out.” Dante places the inferno inside of the Earth’s interior and considers it formed by concentric spheres of increasing density. Those spheres are of a sublunar type. Each one of those submerged spheres is governed by an overwhelming quantity of laws that can begin with 96, continue with 192 and multiply themselves successively in accordance with the Law of Three.
A Master speaking of the inferno said:
This is the Hindu Naraka 'situated beneath the earth and beneath the waters'. This is the Babylonian Aralu, 'the land of No-return, the region of darkness . . . the house whose enterer goes not forth . . . the road whence the wayfarer never returns . . . the house whose inhabitants see no light . . . the region where dust is their bread and their food mud'. This is the Greek Tartarus to which the Mouth of Earth led, 'where much fire floweth, and there are great rivers of fire, and many rivers of running mud ... a cavern in the earth, which is the greatest of them all, and, moreover, pierceth right through the Earth . . . Whoso are deemed incurable the appointed Angel doth cast into Tartarus, and thence they come not out at all'. This is the Egyptian Amentet, represented in the cosmological plan of the Great Pyramid by a dark rocky chamber a hundred feet below ground level, whose floor is left formless and from which a final passage leads to nothing at all. [3]
Inferno comes from the Latin word “infernus”, and this word means lower region. The lower region is not the cellular region in which we live. The lower region is the Sub-world, the submerged Mineral Kingdom beneath the surface of the terrestrial crust. The Lithosphere is the kingdom of the minerals and the barysphere is the kingdom of the metals.
All human beings, a little later, a little sooner, become identified with the mineral kingdom through their persistence in crime and end up entering the mineral kingdom in order to share the fate of the minerals. Geological processes and geological time are frightfully slow and painful. Rare are the human beings who resolve to liberate themselves from the 48, 24, 12 and 6 laws in order to enter the Absolute. Humanity in its conjunction always prefers to go from the 48 laws to the 96. It is easier to enter the world of 96 laws than to liberate oneself from the 48 laws and humanity always prefers what is easiest. Humanity loves having a heart of flint, a heart of stone, etc., etc. Humanity loves identifying with the mineral kingdom and sharing the fate of the mineral.
All religions’ infernos are symbols of the mineral kingdom, the atomic infernos of Nature constitute the Mineral Sub-world. What is normal, what is natural, is that humanity in almost its entirety enters into the mineral kingdom. What is strange, what is revolutionary, is that some Self-realize themselves and after liberating themselves from all the laws, enter the Absolute.
Liberating oneself from the 48 laws, from the 24, from the 12 and from the 6, means making tremendous super-efforts. People always want what is most comfortable, what is easiest, and that is why almost all human beings a little sooner or a little later stop being born in order to enter the Sub-world of the 96 laws.
We can free ourselves from the 48 laws, from the 24, from the 12 and from the 6 only by means of the Revolution of the Consciousness, but people do not like the Revolution of the Consciousness. People prefer to dance, to drink, to fornicate, to commit adultery, to get drunk, to make a lot of money, etc., etc. This is, for the people, more comfortable than the Revolution of the Consciousness.
The Revolution of the Consciousness has three factors that the people don’t like: 1st, To Die; 2nd, To Be Born; 3rd, Sacrifice for Humanity. This becomes very difficult for people, rare are those who want to die, that is to say, to disintegrate their beloved I. Rare are those who truly resolve to effect the sexual connection without ejaculation of the semen with the purpose of fabricating the legitimate Astral Body, the authentic Mental Body and the true Causal or Body of Conscious Will. Rare are those who are resolved to sacrifice themselves for the salvation of the world. People prefer to enjoy the pleasures of the Earth and then to enter the Mineral Sub-world in order to share the fate of the minerals; this is easier, more comfortable, smoother. The Revolution of the Consciousness requires tremendous super-efforts and the people do not like anything that makes them uncomfortable.
